Apple has recently launched iPad Mini to compete in the 7inch Tablet segment. There are many Android Driven Tablets in this range that are already in the market. It seems like Apple has worked hard all through the year, but still iPad Mini has a upgraded processor and Lightening connecter. Its disappointing for people who were searching for some extra features. Still we will say that iPad mini steals all the features from its old Large screen predecessors. We are here to discuss the advantages iPad Mini will offer compared for Android Tablets like Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD.

Comparison Table :

Processor and Memory:

The hardware or the powerhouse of a Tablet is very essential part and Apple has beefed up the new A5 chipset and added a 1GHz Dual core processor with PowerVR graphics, which stands equal with Kindle Fire HD but Nexus 7 features an Quad Core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with GeForce graphics. Beside that both Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 have 1GB RAM compared to 512 MB on iPad Mini. This makes the Nexus 7 winner single handedly.

Screen and Build Quality :

Again, I would give Nexus 7 some extra points for its 7 inch IPS LCD display with high resolution 800 x 1280 capability. There is a Gorilla glass 2 protection, and has a better color density 216 ppi. Viewing angle is high aswell the color do not fades even at the higher angles. Kindle Fire HD has a similar screen but without the Gorilla protection. iPad mini features a 7.9 inch screen with Retina display and 162ppi density.

When build quality is considered then I would say that Apple iPad mini will cost around $329 which is must costlier than Nexus 7′s $199 and Kindle Fire HD’s $249 price tag. Apple is always about build quality and thus you can expect a sturdy quality. Nexus 7 is build by Asus and I would like to mark that it has almost same build quality when compared for expensive tablets like Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or Asus Transformer.

Camera :

If you have checked the comparison table presented on the starting of the article, you will clearly make out the iPad is a definite winner as it features a  5MP secondary camera with HD recording. It features the similar kind of front camera that is 1.2MP capable and can record videos @720P.

Connectivity :

Again, iPad Mini is winner as it features cellular connectivity. You can make and receive calls using the 3G or 4G LTE connectivity. Beside that there are common connectivity features like Wi-FI and Bluetooth. Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD does not have 3G connectivity. There are rumors that Google is going to launch a 3G enabled Nexus 7 very soon.

Software and App Ecosystem :

Nexus 7 and Kindle fire HD are Android devices but Fire HD has no access to Google play store [You need to hack to gain access], it has Amazon app store that has lots of apps, books, videos etc. Nexus 7 has access to Play store which has billions of Apps and Games. When it comes to iPad then you will get the latest iOS 6. Apple has strict control and thus you will see more of Paid apps but they are less crapy. On the other hand Nexus 7 presents the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Operating system and there is no crappy apps or launcher installed on it. You will get the original butter smooth UI and stability.  As there are many kinds of Android device and thus it’s hard for developer to make apps compatible to all of them. So there may be some apps that can face issues on Nexus 7 but all popular apps/games runs fine on Nexus 7. I would keep Apple iPad Mini and Nexus 7 equal on this comparison class.

Price :

Apple has launched iPad Mini starting with a price tag of $299. The LTE 16GB version of iPad Mini is priced at $459 but there are no LTE version of Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD. iPad Mini 16GB Wi-FI Tablet is tagged with $349 when compared to 8GB Nexus 7 at $199 [Nexus 7 32GB coming soong with price tag of $249] and Kindle Fire HD 16GB at $199 and 32GB at $249. It makes the iPad Mini a way expensive than these tablets. iPad Mini is almost $130 costlier than the Android Tablet but I am sure Apple is going to sell millions of them [same happened with iPhone 5]. But iPad Mini looks no where near to destroy the market of budget priced [cheap] Android Tablet like Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7.

Verdict :

For now, iPad Mini is a interesting package at its price. But Still I can wait for few tablets releasing by November 2012 end like 3G version of Nexus 7. There are rumors that Samsung may launch 3rd generation Galaxy Tab series and a new Nexus 10 Tablet. Beside that Price will go down by December and there will be lots of offer available in the festive season. Most of the people do not need Cellular connectivity on their Tablet as its big to handle while making calls. So its better to stick with Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire. Readers who feel like they need 4G LTE or 3G connectivity on Tablet and that too with Apple’s iOS then go for the iPad Mini.
