In recent times, the Chinese technology giant Huawei has been making significant inroads into becoming one of the biggest smartphone global brands. There is still much work to be done, but a few of their most recent releases have displayed cutting edge development that put their phones at the forefront of the phone market. We decided to take a closer look at three of these phones in order to assess just how good they are.
Huawei Ascend D Quad
Standing as the best Huawei smartphone, the Ascend D Quad is a device announced in February 2012, which is notable through the way it puts Huawei on the smartphone map for being one of the select few that are being produced with quad-core processors currently (the HTC One X and the LG Optimus 4X HD being the most interesting ones among them). Such technology leaves the Huawei extremely quick to respond to input for a wide range of large, simultaneous applications.
In terms of other hardware, the Ascend D Quad holds an 8-megapixel camera, which is certain to provide great quality photo and video footage in a variety of contexts. The phone is large due to its 4.5-inch screen, but remains compact whilst still being able to offer great graphics. The phone looks smart also, with a simple striped pattern on the back adding to a classy look that the phone holds. In terms of software, the phone comes with the Android 4.0 platform, which should be standard for any newly released phones as the year progresses. All in all, the phone hits the button in every aspect that it needs to, and sits nicely amongst any other high end phone on the market currently.
Huawei Ascend P1 S
Secondly, we look at the Ascend P1 S. This phone was hailed upon its announcement in January to be Hauwei’s first real good-quality smartphone. The standout feature of the phone is its extremely slim profile –at just 6.68mm in thickness, this phone is one of the slimmest phones around. This adds to the stylish look that the phone holds, with the rear of the phone being patterned in a way that looks classy and will please those who like to have a phone that looks good. The 4.2-inch screen provides a great picture, with good-quality graphics being a great feature on this phone.
Inside the phone is a dual-core 1.5GHz processor that provides really great speed and performance to the phone – it was able to provide extremely quick responses to the inputs we made, especially during gaming. On top of this, its 8-megapixel camera provides great-quality photos and videos that work in a variety of light intensities.
As can be expected from such a cool phone, Android 4.0 ICS will come installed with the phone, which currently puts the phone on a good level that will please those who are eagerly awaiting the new operating system. Whilst this phone has since been overshadowed by the Ascend D Quad, it remains a great-quality handset that will endure the test of time and will potentially drop in price once future Huawei handsets are released.
Huawei Ascend X
The previous two phones are the only two (along with their variants) that have been released by Huawei since their drive to break into the top end of the smartphone market. However, whilst the next phone is a relatively large step down from the previous two phones, that does not mean that Huawei were producing bad phones half a year ago.
Good-quality technology still went into Huawei phones, and so for any person who likes the Huawei style but does not have the money or the patience for the previous two phones, the next phone could be for them. The Ascend X was released in July 2011, and many hailed it as a success, due to its good processing speed at 1GHz and usability with the Froyo Android operating system it runs.
The 5-megapixel camera also provides good photo and video capture, which can then be viewed on a display that provides good contrasts and sharpness. The design of the phone is stylish, with a metallic style feeling sturdy but also light. Whilst at the point that this phone was released Huawei were firmly off the radar, this phone should have been a warning to competitors, as through handset we can see that this was a forerunner to the excellent quality Ascend D Quad and Ascend P1 S phones that were to come later.
